Ametrine History and Uses:
Ametrine is a mixture of Amethyst and Citrine and is also known as Trystine or Bolivianite. The different colours are produced by the iron in the stone oxidising at different rates due to exposure to different temperatures as the crystal is formed. The first record of this stone was in seventeenth century Spain when it was presented to the Queen as a gift from the New World. Legend of the Bolivian Ametrine states that a mine was given to a spanish conquistador Felipe de Urriola y Goitia as a dowry gift from Anahi an Ayoreo princess. When it came time for him to return to Spain Anahi planned to go with him, against the wishes of her people, who attempted to kill Don Felipe to prevent him from taking her. However Anahi was accidently killed as she was warning him of his fate and as she lay dying she gave him an Ametrine crystal. The two colours in the stone, purple and orange, representing how she was torn between the love for her tribe and love for her husband.
